A person who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males aged nine and ten years old.

The accused was detained after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

The man played a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor stated further: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated items including infant oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his concerns.

She said the man continued to engage in the "candy game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The prosecutor explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.

She explained the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
